Description:
We provide evaluation, consultation, and treatment mainly for children and adolescents, but also for adults, with coordination, behavioral, and learning issues. We see children with mild coordination issues, clumsiness, sensory processing disorder, handwriting issues, ADHD, Learning Disabilities, and Autism Spectrum Disorders. Our focus is on sensory integration, sensory processing and modulation, postural control, motor planning, eye hand coordination, gross and fine motor skills, and handwriting depending on the need. Therapy may also include Therapeutic Listening Program, Interactive Metronome, The Alert Program for Self Regulation (How Does Your Engine Run), Handwriting Without Tears, and Visually Enhanced Occupational Therapy. Occupational Therapy is offered in the office which includes extensive equipment and sometimes at area schools. Home and school visits are available as well as consultations. Intensive therapy is offered for families who come to the area for short term therapy.

We are in the office of Appelbaum Eye Care Associates, P.C. and have the advantage of working closely with Developmental Optometrists, Dr. Stan Appelbaum and Dr. Bryce Appelbaum. For those children who have vision problems, such as struggles in ocular motor control, eye teaming and focusing, convergence, an eye that turns in or out, etc. we regularly consult with each other to provide a comprehensive approach which may also include Optometric Care such as Optometric Vision Therapy, lenses, or suggestions for OT for Visually Enhance Occupational Therapy.

Barbara S. Bassin, OTR/L, BCP and Dr. Stan Appelbaum are frequent lecturers around the country to therapists. They educate therapists about vision and vestibular issues, as well as teaching therapists how to identify vision problems and how to visually enhance their therapy.
